About BK

A small shop that answers its own phone

BK Electric & FireAlarm works out of Shippensburg and covers Newburg and the rest of South Central PA. Ten years of panels, pole barns, remodels and fire alarm systems, most of it inside an hour of the shop.

The work runs under PA License #171251 and the insurance is current, so a general contractor can have a certificate before anyone breaks ground. One electrician handles the job from the walkthrough to the inspection, which means you never explain the same thing twice.

Barns and outbuildings make up a good share of the calendar. Feeds, subpanels, lighting layouts and the finish work that turns a shell into something you can live in.

What we get called for

Seven things, done properly. Open any one to see what it covers.

Older houses around here were wired for a fraction of what a family plugs in now. We add circuits where you actually need them, fix what the last guy improvised, and label the panel so the next person can read it.

Call about this
What it covers
  • Outlets and switches
  • Interior and exterior lighting
  • Ceiling fans
  • Whole-home rewires
  • Code corrections

Fit-outs, retrofits and the dedicated circuits that a piece of equipment needs before it can be delivered. We work to the schedule the GC hands us and we show up for the inspection.

Call about this
What it covers
  • Tenant fit-outs
  • Lighting and retrofits
  • Dedicated circuits
  • Service upgrades
  • Maintenance

Design, install, test and the annual paperwork. Half the fire alarm calls we take are buildings that passed once and were never tested again. We put the system back in compliance and keep the records where an inspector can find them.

Call about this
What it covers
  • System install
  • Inspection and testing
  • Smoke and heat detectors
  • Pull stations
  • Code compliance

A 100 amp service and a full panel is the wall most projects hit. We size the upgrade to what you are adding, coordinate the disconnect with the utility, and get you a labeled schedule at the end.

Call about this
What it covers
  • 100A and 200A upgrades
  • Breaker replacement
  • Meter and service
  • Surge protection
  • Sub-panels

Storms here take the power out for days, not hours. We run a load calculation first so you find out what the generator will actually carry before you buy it, then wire the transfer switch so the changeover happens without anyone going outside.

Call about this
What it covers
  • Standby generators
  • Transfer switches
  • Whole-home backup
  • Load calculations

A Level 2 charger wants its own 240 volt circuit and enough headroom in the panel to feed it. We check both before quoting, so nobody finds out at install time that the service needs upgrading first.

Call about this
What it covers
  • Level 2 chargers
  • Tesla and universal (J1772)
  • Dedicated 240V circuit
  • Panel and load check
  • Permit and inspection

A burning smell or a panel that will not reset is not a next-week problem. The emergency line is a phone, so you get a person and a time, day or night.

What we come out for
  • Power loss
  • Burning smell or sparks
  • Tripped mains

Why people call us back

Six things that show up on every job, whether it is one outlet or a whole barn.

One electrician, start to finish

The person who quotes the job is the person who wires it and meets the inspector. Nothing gets handed off to a crew you have never met.

Licensed and insured, on paper

PA License #171251 and current insurance. If your GC needs a certificate before work starts, ask and it goes out the same day.

Permits handled

We pull the permit, book the inspection and hand you the signed card at the end. You do not chase the township.

Someone answers at 2am

Burning smell, dead panel, alarm going off in an empty building. The emergency line rings a phone, not a voicemail box.

Barns and barndominiums

Outbuilding wiring is a good share of what we do. Feeds, subpanels, lighting layouts and the finish work that makes a shell liveable.

Rough-in you can read later

Straight runs, labeled circuits and a panel schedule that still makes sense three years from now when you are adding a freezer.

How a job runs

Four steps from the first call to the signed inspection card. No surprises in the middle.

01

Call or text

Tell us what is going on. Most jobs need one visit and a look at your panel before we can put a number on it.

02

Quote in writing

A price you can hold us to, with what is included spelled out and anything excluded said plainly.

03

Permit and schedule

We pull the permit and give you dates. Rough-in and finish get their own slots so the drywall crew is not waiting on us.

04

Inspection

We meet the inspector, correct anything flagged on the spot and hand you the signed card.
